Two-factor authentication is an important security feature. When you enable it, you add an extra layer of security to your account by requiring a one-time security code generated by an app or sent to you via SMS to be submitted each time you log in. When initially setting up two-factor authentication, it needs to be done on a desktop.
Note: Artsy Two-Factor Authentication is currently incompatible with any linked third-party/social authentication providers. A user with a linked third-party/social authentication provider (eg. Facebook/Apple) is not able to enroll in Two-Factor Authentication.
While you are not required to use two-factor authentication on your account, we strongly recommend it as it helps keep you and your Artsy account safer.
To enable two-factor authentication, follow these steps when signing in on a desktop:
- Go to your user account settings.
- Scroll down to the section titled "Two-Factor Authentication". You will have the option of having the codes sent by SMS, or generated by an authentication app such as 1Password. Follow the instructions to complete the enrollment process.
When you are signing in, you will now be required to submit a code sent to you or generated by your chosen method.
Note: We very strongly recommend that you set up your recovery codes and store them somewhere safe. This will enable you to regain access to your account even if you lose access to the phone number authentication codes are sent to, or the app they are generated on.
